Students entering 5th-8th grade are invited to attend our annual Acolyte Training as we prepare for a new year of serving in worship.

An acolyte is a student who assists during the worship service by lighting and extinguishing the altar candles and carrying the cross on special Sundays. While these tasks are practical, they also point us to deeper spiritual truths. The lighted candles remind us that Christ is the Light of the World (John 8:12), and the processional cross keeps our focus on Jesus and His saving work as the center of our worship.

Acolyting is much more than simply "helping out" on Sunday morning. It is an opportunity for students to live out their baptismal calling by serving Christ and His Church! Through this ministry, students learn responsibility, reverence, and the joy of participating in God's work among His people. Serving in worship also helps students grow in confidence and develop a deeper appreciation for the richness of our worship service.

During training, students will:

  • Learn the responsibilities of an acolyte before, during, and after worship.

  • Practice carrying the processional cross and lighting/extinguishing the altar candles.

  • Become familiar with worship etiquette and what it means to serve in their church.

  • Receive information about scheduling and expectations for the year.

No prior experience is necessary. We encourage all eligible students to participate as they grow in faith through serving God's people in worship. We look forward to welcoming this year's acolytes!
